The current generation of consoles we have is extremely advanced compared to the previous generation. This new generation is host to the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 all-digital, Xbox series X, Xbox series S, and the OLED Nintendo switch. All of these consoles are steps above the previous versions. Something new to PlayStation is that this year they are offering an all-digital console alongside a console with a disk drive. This is because of the rising popularity of buying games digitally. Xbox had an all-digital console in the previous generation which was the Xbox one S all digital. The difference in this generation is that with Xbox, unlike last year where you could get an Xbox one S all-digital with one terabyte of space this year’s Xbox series S only comes with 512 gigabytes of storage. This is a considerable downgrade from last year and from the series X and even both PlayStation 5 models.
Let’s dissect the new console’s stats and see what’s new. Both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox series X feature one terabyte of space as well as a disk drive. Both of these consoles are capable of playing games in 4K as well as playing High-quality movies and streams. One difference between the consoles is the new controllers. While PlayStation has continued to better their controller with the New dual sense controller however the Xbox on the other hand has made a new controller but hasn’t even improved anything. The only new thing on the Xbox controller is a new D-pad. The big differences come when you look at the PlayStation 5 all-digital and the Xbox series S. The PlayStation 5 all-digital has practically the same specs as the base model however it doesn’t have the disk tray. The Xbox series S on the other hand is much worse than the Xbox series x. To start the series S only has 512 gigabytes of storage as opposed to the series x that has 1 terabyte. Also the series S has a worse processor which limits its 4k capabilities to practically nothing which means you would be better off buying a last-generation console over the series s. These differences make both PlayStation consoles much better which is another reason PlayStation 5’s and series x’s are almost impossible to get and series s’s are everywhere.
While there are some upward, downward, and even some sideways movements between the Xbox and PlayStation consoles the new OLED switch makes a ton of improvements. The new switch offers A bigger screen that is now an OLED. The difference between an OLED and the older LED screens is an OLED actually won’t turn on the pixels showing black and can produce brighter colors which means your blacks will be deeper and your whites will be brighter. The new OLED switch also has a much bigger battery life allowing you to play on the go for longer. Nintendo has also improved the kickstand on the back of the switch allow the user to change the angle at which it leans. The final and probably most important improvement is that there is now an Ethernet port in the dock of the switch which will allow for a high-speed wired internet connection which the switch was previously incapable of. All in all these new consoles are still better than the last generation for the most part and stand as a great show of how far we have come.
